Vellore is considered to be one of the oldest cities of Tamil Nadu which is situated at the banks of the river Palar. The city possess a number of Colleges, ancient Temples and one of the best Hospitals in India, viz. Christian Medical College & Hospital on its crown. It has also become the hottest tourist spot. The Fort in Vellore stands as a monument which gives a clear picture of the evolution of the city. The two districts viz. the North and the South Arcot came into existence in 1908 and during the year 1911, Vellore became the head quarters of North Arcot district comprising Vellore and Thiruvannamalai.

LEATHER INDUSTRIES:

We can find a lot of leather and tannery industries around Vellore and neighboring towns viz. Ranipet, Ambur and Vaniyambadi. Vellore is considered to be the major exporter of finished leather goods in India such as shoes, garments, gloves etc.

CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES:

The Chemical Industries situated in Ranipet – SIPCOT are the main source of income for Vellore. Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) is one of the nine major Federal Government owned enterprises in the country. EID Parry, Thirumalai Chemicals & Greaves, Automobile & Mechanical Companies of worldwide products of TVS Brakes India, Mitsubishi, Greaves Cotton and MRF are also situated here.

The Nilgri Hills consist of a range of mountains with 24 peaks situated over 2000 meters above the sea level. It is located in the western part of Tamil Nadu at the borders of Karnataka and Kerala States. In 1827 Ooty became the Sanatorium and the summer capital. The mountain railway of the Nilgris was completed by the Madras Government. KANYAKUMARI - Tourist places & shopping spots

Kanyakumari is a town located at the southernmost end of the Indian Peninsula. It is also called “Cape Comorin” and a most popular tourist place in India. The beauty of the town is that the Bay of Bengal, the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean meet in one place and the pilgrims are taking a holy dip in it. The closest major cities are viz. Nagercoil and Thiruvananthapuram. Kanyakumari was once ruled by the Cholas, the Cheras, the Pandyas and the Nayaks. We can see the architectural beauty of the temples by the work of these rulers.
