Madurai is the oldest and prestigious city of Tamil Nadu which is located on the banks of the river Vaigai. It is the second largest city and called the ‘Temple City’. It is also called ‘Koodal Maanagar’, ‘Kalaachaara Thalainagar’, ‘Malligai Maanagar’, ‘Thoonga Nagaram’ and ‘Thiruvizha Nagaram’.

Madurai’s centre of attraction is the Meenakshi Sundareswar Temple and some of the streets around the Temple are named after the Tamil month’s viz.
